From Jedah, Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in a tense Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, setting up a blockbuster final against Barcelona on Sunday.

Fede Valverde blasted Madrid ahead with a thunderous free kick just two minutes in his first goal of the season before Rodrygo extended the lead in the 55th with a cool finish on the counter.

Alexander Sorloth pulled one back for Atletico with a header three minutes later, but Thibaut Courtois' heroics denied Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann as Diego Simeone's side pushed for extra time.

It's Madrid's fifth straight win across all competitions.

Alonso, who steadied the ship after a rocky end to 2025, now faces Barca again after his first Clasico victory in October.
