The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State has presented welfare cheques worth over ₦13.3 million to families of officers who died in the line of duty, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The Katsina State Police Command on Thursday presented IGP’s welfare package cheques worth 13,353,589.45 to 32 families and next of kin of deceased officers.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, while presenting the cheques at the Command Headquarters, Katsina, commended the deceased officers for their resilience, sacrifice, and commitment in the course of their duty.

The event held at the Command Headquarters, Katsina, was part of the activities lined up for the National Police Day 2026 celebration, with a theme: “Community Partnership: Building Trust”.

Highlighting other activities undertaken by the command, the police chief said officers had carried out a sanitation exercise at Katsina Central Motor Park, conducted medical outreach programmes, and distributed treated mosquito nets and medications to residents at the Emir’s Palace.

He added that the command also organised public enlightenment campaigns on drug abuse, traffic regulations, and electoral offences.

He assured other officers that the current welfare package of the present regime will be rejigged.

He therefore solicited more partnership with the media to continue covering the command’s activities, assuring readiness to take off any complaints against the excesses of the police officers.

Today we have about 40 cheques that the IGP has given us for the deserving family members of deceased officers that show resilience, sacrifice, and commitment in the course of their duty as part of their welfare package of the present administration. I am glad that 20 per cent of the beneficiaries are already here. I want to use this medium to thank the IGP for this package.

“Let me assure other officers that the current welfare package of the present regime will be rejigged and will be done as at when due.

“We solicit for more partnership with the media so that every activity of the command will be covered, and we are ready to take off any complaints against the excesses of the police officers “, CP Fage noted.

One of the beneficiaries and mother of seven, Mrs Zainab Bishir, pledged to wisely use the money given to them, by investing in business to support the children left behind by her late husband.

“We are extremely happy with the leadership of the Police for doing their very best for our welfare. We will surely use the money judiciously by investing in business to support our orphans left behind to us”, Mrs Bishir promised.
