The UK Home Secretary is set to outline legal measures to deport Shabir Ahmed, a convicted Rochdale grooming gang ringleader who was released from prison earlier this month.

Ahmed, who was jailed for 22 years in 2012 for multiple child sexual offences, was stripped of his British citizenship after his conviction but cannot currently be deported because of legal protections covering some long-term Commonwealth citizens.

The move comes amid growing calls for his removal from the UK, although it remains unclear how the law will be changed and whether Pakistan will accept him.
