Team Nigeria will kick off its campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with a target of winning a record 20 gold medals.
A 72-member contingent will compete in 10 sports after completing a three-week training camp in Aberdeen ahead of the Games.
Nigeria’s medal push will be led by para powerlifting champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo, world champion Rita Ferdinand, world record hurdler Tobi Amusan and sprint star Kayinsola Ajayi.
However, defending long jump champion Ese Brume will miss the Games due to injury.
The National Sports Commission says improved welfare and performance incentives have been provided for the athletes, expressing confidence that Team Nigeria will surpass the country’s previous best performance of 12 gold medals achieved at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
