Two people have been confirmed dead and four others injured in a fatal road crash involving a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle (Keke) along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road in Abia State.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Umuda, amid rainy weather conditions.
In a statement on Saturday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, said the command received the distress call at 4:33 p.m., and its rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes.
According to her, six persons were involved in the crash, two men, three women, and a child. Four sustained varying degrees of injuries, while two were pronounced dead at the scene.
Ezeoma said preliminary findings indicate that speed limit violation, worsened by the wet and slippery road, was the likely cause of the accident.
The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FMC mortuary.
The FRSC extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
“Visibility and vehicle control may have been compromised by the rain,” Ezeoma noted, adding that caution and patience remain crucial to ensuring safety on the roads.
