Workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration have announced plans to shut down government offices across Abuja and its area councils as they commence a strike on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The decision was taken by the Joint Union Action Congress, which directed workers at all cadres within the FCT to withdraw their services following what it described as the authorities’ failure to address long-standing labour and welfare demands.
The Public Relations Officer of the unions, Holina Adejoh, confirmed the development to newsmen during a phone call with our correspondent on Friday.
“Yes, we are embarking on a strike on Monday,” she said.
The strike is expected to affect all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies, area councils, and parastatals, effectively grounding government activities within the territory.
The decision followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to FCTA management, which was met with silence despite a series of meetings held during that period.
