Chinese authorities have evacuated more than one million people in eastern China, including Shanghai, as Typhoon Dolphin made landfall, bringing heavy rain and disrupting transport.

Nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled in Shanghai, while authorities warned of severe flooding and landslides.

The storm, which had winds of up to 150 kilometres per hour, was the strongest to hit China this year.

Although Dolphin has been downgraded to a tropical storm, heavy rainfall is expected to continue until Wednesday.

Several tourist attractions, including parts of Disneyland and Legoland, remain closed.
