The Senate has confirmed former lawmaker Magnus Abe as Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Abe, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, was screened by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) before receiving full approval.

He highlighted that rising global oil prices due to the US-Iran conflict present both challenges and opportunities for Nigeria, noting potential gains in revenue and investments in gas and marginal oil fields.

He emphasized collaboration with stakeholders and leveraging the Petroleum Industry Act to address oil theft and host community concerns.
