The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over more than 126.46 billion naira in electoral funds allegedly mismanaged, diverted or left unaccounted for.
SERAP is asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel INEC to disclose how the funds were spent, identify contractors and beneficiaries, and provide evidence that the procured electoral materials and equipment were supplied.
The organisation said the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2023 report, which flagged procurement irregularities involving ballot boxes, electoral devices, vehicles and other services. No hearing date has been announced.
